Hey Guys,

I needed to install SQL Server 2014 Management Studio for a database form that I'm taking. I wasn't able to load the database, so I played around with the C bulldoze permissions and I concluded upward losing all access to my C bulldoze. If I effort to go anywhere similar Acer Recovery Management or C: Security Tab or UAC, I get "access is denied". I take my Windows 8 recovery USB and I played around in the command prompt merely concluded up making it worse. (Before I could still log on and use Chrome) but now I'k getting "\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD - You'll need to use Recovery tools" Information technology messed up when I tried this command "bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-us /s x: /f ALL" I tried all the other commands from this website:

except for the paid software:

but haven't bought information technology withal. I know it can exist fixed from the command prompt just I'k not sure how. When I endeavor "Reset / Refresh your PC" from the recovery media, I withal get "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and endeavour again" I have all my files saved on Google drive so I don't mind losing anything. What can you suggest?

Doesn't the Windows USB recovery drive allow you to exercise a Organization Restore? If not you can download the Windows 8.one install media using the media cosmos tool.

Boot the disk and click the Repair Computer link in the lower left window. Do a Organisation Restore to a date only before your changes. This should accept intendance of the permission problems

Encounter the heading

Booting to Recovery Environment with Windows viii/8.1 installation media or Recovery Drive/System Repair Disc

https://www.winhelp.us/repair-your-computer-in-windows-8.html

If later doing the System Restore y'all still get the EFI mistake then select Startup or Automatic Repair. You may need to do this three times before Windows does a complete repair.

Hey John,

No, system restore doesn't work. There's no bachelor restore points. I go the error "To apply system restore, y'all must specify which Windows installation to restore." Automated repair doesn't work. It's a trouble with the BCD that needs to be fixed from the control line. When I try to back up the BCD, I get the fault "The system cannot notice the file specified." I also go the mistake "Failure when attempting to re-create boot files." when I try to practice "bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-us /s p: /f ALL (P: is the letter I assigned for the ESP volume). It has to be that the BCD file is missing somehow. I need to recollect it somehow. Thanks,

Sarah

A startup repair should repair a bad BCD unless information technology is missing. Boot the install disk. When you become to the first screen that lists language printing Shift + F10. This will open a control prompt. Blazon the post-obit.

diskpart

list disk

select disk X    where X is your Windows deejay. If you merely have one deejay X will be 0

listing volume

Post a screenshot or postal service the output.

I understand you tried and it failed but run into if the following works. For some reason, perhaps fatigue, I missed your attempt to use bcdboot. I was going to suggest the following. You lot can effort these commands again merely I believe you will get the same result.

Open diskpart again and blazon the post-obit commands.

diskpart

list disk

select disk 0

listing book

select book 3

assign letter=F    Note: I practice non meet a P: assigned to the EFS segmentation in your epitome. If yous wish you can however utilize P:

leave

At the normal control prompt type the following.

bcdboot C:\Windows /s F:

Substitute P: for F: if you are using P:

Reboot.

If the estimator all the same does not boot then I am out of ideas on this i, sorry.

I think your just option at this point it to do a reset with the option to keep your personal files. That may work but you would lose all your installed programs. You would need to kicking a Windows ten install disk in order to get to the reset menu. Do you demand any personal data off the drive?

Edit: Were you using a Windows 8 recovery disk to exercise the commands? I'chiliad wondering if using a Windows 10 disk would make a difference?

Edit Edit: Did you come up across this page on your search. Information technology may be worth doing fixboot first so the diskpart commands.

I haven't tried that link only it appears to be useful. I was using a Windows eight USB recovery disk. How would I get my hands on a Windows ten install disk? I don't need any files on the C bulldoze. I saved everything on Google Drive. Thank you John

Considering y'all are already activated you can download the install media using the Windows 10 media cosmos tool. You can do a clean install and the Os will cocky-activate as your license is on the Microsoft Servers.

I prefer to use the iso option. This lets y'all have the option of called-for the iso to a DVD or use the iso with Rufus to create a bootable flash drive. Run Rufus and select GPT partition scheme if your calculator came pre-installed with Windows 8. Leave all boxes as checked. Where you see FreeDos in the dropdown box select iso image, click the icon, and browse to the iso file yous downloaded. Press Start. Backup any needed  information on the flash drive every bit information technology will be formatted.

Most Modern computer have a boot menu by tapping a key at boot. Select your boot device. For Acer it'southward F12. If you cannot access the kicking menu by borer F12 you need to enable it in UEFI settings.

http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3182/~/why-cant-i-get-the-f12-kick-bill of fare-to-work-on-my-notebook-or-netbook%3F

See this guide on doing a clean install. It is for Windows 8 but the same holds for Windows 10

Yous may need to install some additional drivers such as Wifi from the Acer back up site for your computer. After the estimator is up and running with all updates installed I would advise doing a consummate disk paradigm to an external bulldoze using either Macrium Free or Aomei Backupper. Both permit the creation of a kicking deejay or USB flash bulldoze that will permit yous to recover in case the computer no longer boots because of malware or a failed bulldoze. This would allow yous be back running in minutes vs hours.

I visited an net cafe nigh my apartment and used the Windows Media Tool to download Windows x using Rufus/USB. When I tried to clean install, I got the fault message "WIndows could not retrieve information about the disks on this reckoner." I remember I need to type some advanced commands in the command prompt to fix it. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am not certain if the bulldoze is failing or not. Boot your Windows 10 USB. At the window that asks for language printing Shift + F10. This volition open a command prompt.

Type the following

diskpart

list disk

Exercise y'all see your difficult bulldoze listed? Is the hard drive detected in your UEFI/BIOS settings? Tap F2 at kicking.

convert GPT

exit

exit
